Appliance Record

All months & seasons

Fill this in once and update it when something is serviced or replaced. Model and serial numbers are on a label, often inside the door, on the back, or under a kick panel. Makers' help pages show where: Whirlpool [30], and for water heaters, on the rating plate on the tank (Bradford White) [31].

Home inventory

Why: if you ever file a claim, a list of what you own makes it easier and faster. Go room by room; write down and photograph or video everything. Record brand, model, serial number, price and purchase date for bigger items. Keep receipts with it, store a copy away from home, and update it every year and when you buy something new [20]. See fix F20.
